56세와 66세 국민을 대상으로 하는 폐기능 검사는 COPD 및 천식 등 호흡기 질환을 조기에 발견할 기회를 제공하며, 환자 스스로 증상을 인지하기 어려운 COPD의 조기 진단 체계를 강화한다. 시장조사 기관 스페리컬 인사이트에 따르면 국내 호흡기 치료제 시장은 2024년 약 1조8000억 원 규모에서 2035년 약 4조7000억 원으로 성장할 전망이다.

이에 주요 제약사들은 치료제 개발과 영업 확대에 집중하고 있다. 한국유나이티드제약은 국산 흡입기 디바이스를 개발하고 6월 출시를 목표로 천식·COPD 치료제 ‘세레테롤 액티베어’를 준비 중이며, DPI 제제 개발도 추진한다. 한미약품은 한국베링거인겔하임과 협력해 스피리바 시리즈 등 COPD 치료제 3종의 유통과 판촉을 개시했고, 자체 천식 치료제 몬테리진 영업도 강화하고 있다.

대웅제약은 디지털 폐기능 검사기 ‘더 스피로킷’으로 검사 효율성을 높이며 의료진과 환자 만족도 향상을 기대한다. 또한, 폐기능 검사 수가 인상과 정도관리 완화에 대한 기대도 존재한다.

업계 관계자는 폐기능 검사 확대로 조기 발견된 천식과 COPD 환자에 대한 1차 의료기관의 적절한 관리와 치료가 확대되어 사회적 부담 감소에 기여할 것으로 전망했다.

Hanmi Pharmaceutical has begun distribution and promotion of three COPD medications in partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim, including Spiriva capsules and Respimat inhalers, while boosting sales of its own asthma drug Monterizin.

Daewoong Pharmaceutical focuses on improving testing efficiency with its digital pulmonary function tester, ‘The Spirokit,’ which analyzes breath patterns in real-time to optimize exam accuracy and reduce patient fatigue, enhancing satisfaction for both healthcare providers and patients. Industry expectations also include possible increases in pulmonary function test reimbursement rates and eased quality control requirements.

An industry expert anticipates expanded proper management and treatment of patients with early or mild symptoms of asthma and COPD detected through screenings at primary healthcare institutions, which will contribute to reducing social and economic burdens.
