위고비, 고용량 HD FDA 신속 승인…내달 미국 시장에 출시! Wegovy, High-Capacity HD Receives FDA Rapid Approval… Launching in US Market Next Month!

 비만 치료제 ‘위고비(Wegovy)’는 주성분인 세마글루타이드(Semaglutide)를 기반으로, 1주 1회 피하 주사로 투여하는 치료제입니다. 해당 약물은 식욕을 억제하고 포만감을 증대시키는 동시에 위 배출 속도를 늦춰 지속적인 체중 감소를 돕습니다. 식단과 운동과 병행할 경우, 1년 이상 사용할 시 평균 15%의 체중 감량 효과를 나타냅니다.

최근 미국 식품의약국(FDA)은 기존 2.4mg 용량보다 훨씬 높은 7.2mg 용량의 ‘위고비 HD’를 승인하였으며, 노보 노디스크는 내달 미국 시장에 고용량 위고비를 출시할 계획입니다. 3상 임상 시험에서 고용량 위고비를 투여받은 환자들은 평균 20.7%의 체중 감량 효과를 보였습니다.

FDA는 ‘위고비 HD’ 인가를 신속 승인하는 국가 우선 바우처 프로그램을 적용, 통상 10~12개월이 소요되는 승인 과정을 단 54일 만에 완료해 주목받고 있습니다.

부작용으로는 메스꺼움, 구토, 설사, 변비 등의 위장관 증상과 드물게 피부 발진 등의 알레르기 반응이 보고되고 있습니다. 투여 부위는 주로 복부, 허벅지, 윗팔이며, 환자별로 주 1회 주사합니다.

2025년 기준 위고비의 6개월 치료 비용은 약 175~180만 원 수준이며, 보험 적용 시 비용 부담이 줄어들 수 있습니다. 다만, 약물 중단 시 요요 현상이 발생할 수 있어 반드시 전문 의료진 상담과 지속적인 관리가 필요합니다.

위고비 HD의 고용량 출시는 '마운자로', '젭바운드', '오젬픽' 등  비만 치료제 시장에서 경쟁 심화와 함께 효과 최적화 방향을 제시하는 중요한 이정표로 평가되고 있습니다.

Wegovy is an obesity treatment medication containing Semaglutide as its active ingredient, administered as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection. This drug works by suppressing appetite, enhancing feelings of fullness, and delaying gastric emptying to promote sustained weight loss. When combined with diet and exercise, patients typically experience an average weight loss of 15% after more than one year of use.

Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a higher-dose version of Wegovy, known as Wegovy HD (7.2 mg), which Novo Nordisk plans to launch in the U.S. market next month. Phase 3 clinical trials demonstrated that patients receiving this higher dose saw an average weight reduction of 20.7%.

The FDA expedited the approval process for Wegovy HD through its priority review program, completing the review in just 54 days instead of the usual 10 to 12 months, drawing considerable attention.

Common side effects include gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation, with occasional reports of allergic skin reactions. The injection is typically administered weekly into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.

As of 2025, the approximate cost for six months of Wegovy treatment ranges from 1.75 to 1.8 million KRW, with potential reductions when insurance coverage applies. It is essential to note that discontinuation of the medication may lead to weight regain, so continuous medical supervision and management are advised.

The introduction of the higher-dose Wegovy HD marks a significant milestone in the increasingly competitive obesity treatment market, where medications like Mounjaro, Zepbound, and Ozempic are also prominent. This new formulation offers enhanced efficacy, contributing to optimal treatment strategies.
