베스타스, 한국 해상풍력 역량 강화 위해 한전KPS·KMC해운과 전략적 MOU 체결! Vestas Signs Strategic MOU with KEPCO KPS and KMC Shipping to Strengthen Korea's Offshore Wind Capabilities!

 글로벌 지속가능 에너지 솔루션 선도기업 베스타스(Vestas)는 한국전력KPS, KMC해운과 2026년 3월 전략적 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 밝혔습니다. 이번 협약은 한국의 재생에너지 전환과 해상풍력 산업 성장을 지원하기 위해 숙련된 인력 양성과 고품질 해상풍력 운영·유지보수(O&M) 역량 강화를 목표로 합니다.

3사는 해상풍력 서비스 기술자를 위한 풍력 교육센터 설립과 전문 O&M 교육 프로그램 개발을 함께 추진하며, 국내 해상풍력 프로젝트에서 추가 협력 기회도 모색할 계획입니다. 베스타스는 한국 기업과의 협력을 확대해 해상풍력 역량을 지속 강화할 의지를 보였습니다.

한국 해상풍력 산업은 2030년까지 발전 용량을 현재의 약 11배인 4GW로 확대하는 것을 목표로 정부와 민간이 협력 중이며, 「해상풍력 특별법」 시행으로 산업 전반에 큰 변화가 기대됩니다.

다만, 복잡한 인허가 절차(10개 부처 관련, 5년 반 이상 소요), 어민 반대 등 주민 수용성 문제, 해운 항로 안전 우려, 높은 설치·유지비용, 군 작전 갈등 등이 산업 확산을 저해하는 구조적 난제로 꼽힙니다. 또한 풍력 발전 비중과 기술 국산화율이 낮아 경쟁력 강화가 필요한 상황입니다.

이번 3사 협력은 세계적 수준의 터빈 서비스 역량과 국내 산업 경쟁력을 결합해 한국 해상풍력 산업의 성장과 고도화에 기여할 것으로 기대됩니다.

Global sustainable energy solution leader Vestas announced in March 2026 that it has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Korea Electric Power Corporation KPS (KEPCO KPS) and KMC Shipping. This partnership aims to support Korea's renewable energy transition and the growth of the offshore wind industry by fostering skilled personnel and enhancing high-quality offshore wind operation and maintenance (O&M) capabilities.

Under the agreement, the three companies will jointly establish a wind power training center for offshore wind service technicians and develop specialized O&M training programs. They also plan to explore additional opportunities for collaboration within domestic offshore wind projects. Vestas expressed its commitment to continuously strengthen offshore wind capabilities by expanding cooperation with Korean companies.

Korea’s offshore wind industry aims to expand its generation capacity to 4 gigawatts (GW) by 2030, approximately 11 times the current level, with joint efforts by the government and private sector. The recently enacted "Offshore Wind Special Act" is expected to bring significant changes across the industry.

However, the sector faces structural challenges hindering expansion, including complex permitting procedures involving 10 government agencies that take over five and a half years, local community resistance mainly from fishermen, shipping lane safety concerns, high installation and maintenance costs, and conflicts with military operations. Furthermore, the industry must enhance its competitiveness by increasing wind power’s generation share and improving the domestic localization rate of technologies.

The cooperation among the three companies is anticipated to contribute to the growth and advancement of Korea’s offshore wind industry by combining world-class turbine service expertise with domestic industrial competitiveness.
