경남 통영시가 세계 최장 기간 · 최장 거리 익스트림 요트 대회인 2025-26 클리퍼 세계일주 요트대회의 대한민국 최초 기항지로 선정되어 3월 한 달간 뜨거운 바다 축제를 개최한다.
클리퍼 레이스는 1996년 로빈 녹스 존스턴 경이 고안한 세계 최초 단독 무기항 세계일주를 완주한 아이디어에서 출발한 글로벌 익스트림 요트대회다. 약 11개월간 총 74,080km를 항해하는 이 대회는 동일 규격의 10척 요트가 8개 경기 구간과 13개 기항지를 순회하며 경쟁과 협력을 펼친다.
2025-26 시즌에는 총 10개 팀이 참가하며, 3월 통영 도남관광지 일원에서 ‘PORT WEEK’ 행사가 16일부터 22일까지 진행된다. 이어 20일부터 22일까지는 ‘PORT TABLE’ 프로그램이 열리며, 자세한 행사 일정 및 라인업은 추후 공개 예정이다.
통영시는 이번 행사를 통해 글로벌 해양 스포츠의 중심지로서 위상을 강화하고, 지역 관광 활성화 및 해양문화 축제의 새 장을 열 계획이다. 참가 선수들의 열정과 도전 정신을 함께 공유하는 축제의 장으로 시민과 관광객의 많은 참여와 관심을 기대하고 있다.

통영시 관계자는 “클리퍼 세계일주 요트대회를 통해 통영 바다가 전 세계 요트인의 주목을 받는 기회가 될 것”이라며 “이번 축제 기간 동안 다양하고 풍성한 프로그램을 마련해 방문객들에게 잊지 못할 경험을 선사할 것”이라고 밝혔다.
Tongyeong City in South Gyeongsang Province has been selected as the first Korean port of call for the 2025-26 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, the world’s longest-duration and longest-distance extreme yacht competition, and will host a vibrant maritime festival throughout March.
The Clipper Race is a global extreme yacht competition conceived by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first person to complete the world’s first solo non-stop circumnavigation in 1996. Over approximately 11 months, the race covers a total distance of 74,080 kilometers, where 10 identical yachts compete and cooperate across 8 racing legs and 13 ports of call.
In the 2025-26 season, 10 teams will participate. The ‘Port Week’ event will be held from March 16 to March 22 at the Donam Tourist Area in Tongyeong. Following that, the ‘Port Table’ program will take place from March 20 to March 22. Detailed event schedules and lineups will be announced later.
Through this event, Tongyeong aims to enhance its status as a global hub for marine sports and open a new chapter in regional tourism and maritime culture festivals. The city looks forward to extensive participation and interest from citizens and tourists alike, sharing the passion and adventurous spirit of the competing sailors.
