Curia, 글래스고 생산 능력 확대 및 세포주 개발 플랫폼 고도화! Curia Expands Glasgow Production Capacity and Advances Cell Line Development Platform!

 영국 글래스고에 위치한 Curia의 무균 의약품 생산 시설이 2027년 초 완공을 목표로 확장 공사 중이며, Annex 1 규정을 준수하는 아이솔레이터 기반 바이알 충전 라인과 동결건조 설비가 추가된다. 확장 완료 시 최대 2만 바이알 규모의 배치 충전과 소규모 상업 생산 지원이 가능해진다.

Curia는 25년간 제형 개발, 동결건조, 무균 충전 등 고활성 의약품 생산 경험을 보유하고 있으며, 이번 글래스고 확장은 뉴멕시코 앨버커키 상업 생산 시설의 확장과 연계해 진행된다.

또한, 매사추세츠 홉킨턴 시설에서 제공하는 세포주 개발(CLD) 플랫폼을 고도화해, 지식재산권에 구애받지 않는 반표적 통합 기술을 도입, 무작위 통합 대비 약 6배 높은 생산 수율을 달성했다. 안정 세포주 플랫폼인 CHO-GSN®은 일시적 발현 플랫폼 TunaCHO®와 동일한 모세포주 기반으로 개발돼 초기 연구부터 GMP 생산까지 효율적인 규모 확장을 지원한다.

Curia 연구개발 부문 사장 제이미 그라보우스키(Jamie Grabowski)는 이 플랫폼이 바이오텍 파트너들이 임상 생산 초기 단계에 빠르고 비용 효율적으로 진입하도록 돕고, 유리한 라이선스 조건과 함께 상업화 성공에 중요한 역할을 할 것이라고 밝혔다.

Curia’s aseptic pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Glasgow, UK, is currently undergoing expansion with a targeted completion date in early 2027. This expansion will add an isolator-based vial filling line and lyophilization equipment that comply with Annex 1 regulations. Upon completion, the Glasgow site will be capable of batch filling up to 20,000 vials and support small-scale commercial manufacturing.

With over 25 years of experience in formulation development, lyophilization, and aseptic fill-finish of highly potent drugs, Curia’s Glasgow expansion is coordinated alongside the commercial manufacturing facility expansion in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Furthermore, Curia has enhanced its Cell Line Development (CLD) platform at its Hopkinton, Massachusetts facility by implementing a semi-targeted integration technology that is free from intellectual property constraints, achieving production titers approximately six times higher than random integration methods. The stable cell line platform, CHO-GSN®, was developed from the same parental cell line as the transient expression platform TunaCHO®, enabling efficient scale-up from early research to GMP production.

Jamie Grabowski, President of Curia’s R&D division, stated that this platform supports biotech partners in entering early clinical production phases more quickly and cost-effectively. He added that favorable licensing terms and the redesigned cell lines will play a key role in driving successful commercialization for partners.
