현대자동차그룹 자율주행 합작법인 모셔널, 라스베이거스에서 우버와 로보택시 시범 서비스 개시!! Hyundai Motor Group’s Autonomous Driving Joint Venture Motional Launches Robo-Taxi Pilot Service with Uber in Las Vegas!!

 현대자동차그룹의 자율주행 합작법인 모셔널(Motional)이 미국 라스베이거스에서 우버(Uber)와 함께 아이오닉 5 로보택시 시범 서비스를 시작했다.

서비스 운영 구역은 ‘리조트 월드 라스베이거스’, 라스베이거스대로 인근 지정 호텔, 다운타운, 타운스퀘어 상업지구 등이며, 모셔널은 향후 이용 가능 지역을 계속 확장할 예정이다.

우버 앱으로 차량 호출 시, 해당 구역 내 경로인 경우 모셔널 아이오닉 5 로보택시가 자동 배차된다. 탑승 요금은 일반 호출 차량과 동일하며, 원할 경우 일반 차량으로 재배차 요청도 가능하다.

승객은 우버 앱을 통해 차량 문을 열고 탑승하며, 승차 시 음성으로 환영 메시지와 안전벨트 착용 안내가 제공된다. 이동 중 필요 시 우버 상담원과 실시간 연결도 지원된다.

로보택시 선호 고객은 우버 앱 설정에서 ‘탑승 선호도’ 옵션을 선택할 수 있다.

모셔널과 우버는 2022년부터 10년간 전략적 파트너십을 맺고 자율주행 기술과 우버의 고객 네트워크를 결합해 자율주행 대중화에 주력 중이다. 2022년에는 로스앤젤레스에서 우버이츠 배달 시범, 라스베이거스에서 라이드헤일링 파일럿 프로그램을 진행했다.

모셔널 아이오닉 5 로보택시는 미국 연방 자동차 안전기준(FMVSS) 인증을 받은 SAE 레벨4 자율주행 차량으로, 안전을 최우선으로 한다. 시범 서비스 동안에는 운전석에 운영자가 탑승하며, 이용자 피드백을 반영해 올해 말 완전 무인 서비스를 시작할 계획이다.

Motional, a joint venture of Hyundai Motor Group specializing in autonomous driving, has launched a pilot service of the Ioniq 5 robo-taxi in partnership with Uber in Las Vegas, USA.

The service operates within designated zones including Resort World Las Vegas, nearby hotels along Las Vegas Boulevard, the downtown area, and the Town Square commercial district. Motional plans to expand the service area continuously.

When calling a vehicle through the Uber app, passengers traveling within these zones will be automatically assigned a Motional Ioniq 5 robo-taxi. The fare is the same as a regular ride, and passengers can request a conventional vehicle if preferred.

Passengers use the Uber app to open the vehicle doors and board. Upon boarding, a voice message welcomes them and reminds them to fasten their seat belts. During the ride, real-time connection to an Uber agent is available if needed.

Customers who prefer robo-taxis can select the ‘ride preference’ option in the Uber app settings.

Motional and Uber have maintained a strategic partnership for ten years since 2022, combining Motional’s autonomous driving technology with Uber’s customer network to popularize autonomous driving. In 2022, pilot programs included Uber Eats delivery in Los Angeles and ride-hailing in Las Vegas.

The Motional Ioniq 5 robo-taxi is an SAE Level 4 autonomous vehicle certified by the U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), with safety as its top priority. During the pilot phase, a human operator is seated in the driver’s seat, and based on user feedback, fully driverless service is planned to begin by the end of this year.
