IWPG, 제70차 UN 여성지위위원회 참가… 여성 평화 리더십 강화 목소리 낸다 IWPG participates in the 70th UN Commission on the Status of Women, calling for strengthening women's peace leadership.

 세계여성평화그룹(IWPG, 대표 전나영)이 3월 미국 뉴욕 유엔 본부에서 열리는 제70차 여성지위위원회(CSW)에 대표단을 파견하며 국제 활동을 본격화한다. 이번 CSW는 ‘여성과 소녀의 사법 접근권 보장 및 공정한 법체계 촉진’을 주제로 다루며, IWPG는 여성과 소녀들이 겪는 법적·구조적 장벽 해소와 실질적 평화 실현에서 여성의 역할을 강조할 예정이다.

전나영 대표를 포함해 국내외 지부장으로 구성된 파견단은 2주간 유엔 본부 내외에서 아프리카연합, 튀르키예와의 공동 부대행사, 글로벌 NGO 연대 이벤트, 각국 정부 및 유엔 대사들과의 고위급 미팅 등 다양한 평화외교 활동을 펼친다. 특히 ‘지구촌 전쟁종식 평화 선언문(DPCW)’의 국제법 제정 필요성과 여성평화교육을 통한 지속가능한 평화 구축 방안을 제안할 계획이다.

전 대표는 이번 참가가 국제 여성기구와 협력해 여성이 주도하는 평화가 정책과 법제화로 연결되는 이정표가 될 것이라 밝히며, 사회적 갈등과 전쟁으로 인한 불안이 심화하는 현 시점에서 평화의 메시지를 전달하겠다는 포부를 밝혔다.

IWPG는 성평등가족부와 유엔 경제사회이사회(ECOSOC), 글로벌소통국(DGC)에 등록된 국제 여성 NGO로, 122개국 115개 지부, 68개국 900여 협력단체와 함께 지속 가능한 세계 평화를 위해 활발히 활동하고 있다.

The International Women's Peace Group (IWPG), led by Chair Jeon Na-young, will send a delegation to the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York this March. The CSW will focus on "Ensuring Access to Justice for Women and Girls and Promoting Fair Legal Systems," with IWPG emphasizing the role of women in overcoming legal and structural barriers faced by women and girls and in realizing substantive peace.

The delegation, consisting of Chair Jeon and branch leaders from Korea and abroad, will engage in two weeks of active peace diplomacy at and around the UN headquarters. This includes joint side events with the African Union and Turkey, solidarity events with global NGOs, high-level meetings with government officials and UN ambassadors, among others. They plan to advocate for the international legal adoption of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) and sustainable peace-building through women’s peace education.

Chair Jeon expressed hope that this participation will mark a milestone in collaboration with international women's organizations, enabling women-led peace initiatives to translate into policies and legislation. Amid growing social conflict and war-induced anxieties, IWPG aims to share its message of peace worldwide.

Registered with the Korean Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and the UN Department of Global Communications (DGC), IWPG operates actively in 122 countries with 115 branches and cooperates with over 900 partner organizations across 68 nations for sustainable world peace.
