현대차·기아, 국토교통부의 ‘자율주행 실증도시 조성사업’에서 ‘K-자율주행 협력모델’의 자동차 제작사와 운송 플랫폼사로 각각 선정! Hyundai and Kia are expanding the autonomous driving ecosystem with vehicles and platforms.

 한국 현대차·기아는 국토교통부의 ‘자율주행 실증도시 조성사업’에서 ‘K-자율주행 협력모델’의 자동차 제작사와 운송 플랫폼사로 각각 선정됐다. 이 사업은 광주광역시 전체를 대상으로 국내 최초로 도시 단위 자율주행 기술을 실증하는 대규모 프로젝트다.

현대차·기아는 자율주행 개발 전용 차량 제작 부문과 AI 기반 운송 플랫폼 부문을 담당하며, 자율주행 전용 차량 공급과 운송 중개·관제 플랫폼 ‘셔클(Shucle)’ 운영을 맡아 자율주행 서비스 상용화를 지원한다. 셔클 플랫폼은 AI와 실시간 교통 정보를 활용해 최적 경로 제공 및 운영 안전을 관리하며, 이미 33개 지자체, 82개 이상 지역에서 안정적으로 서비스를 운영해왔다.

이번 사업을 통해 현대차·기아는 국내 자율주행 기술 표준 수립 및 제도 정비에 기여하고, 자율주행 기술 개발사들과 협력해 차량 제작과 데이터 공유를 통한 기술 고도화를 추진할 계획이다. 이를 바탕으로 대한민국이 자율주행 강국으로 도약하는 데 중요한 역할을 할 전망이다.

Korean Electric Vehicle Leaders Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors have been selected respectively as the automotive manufacturer and transport platform operator for the ‘K-Autonomous Driving Cooperation Model’ under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘Autonomous Driving Demonstration City Project.’ This large-scale initiative is the first in South Korea to test autonomous driving technology citywide, focusing on Gwangju Metropolitan City.

Hyundai and Kia will be responsible for manufacturing specialized vehicles dedicated to autonomous driving development and operating the AI-based transport intermediary and control platform, ‘Shucle.’ The Shucle platform leverages AI and real-time traffic data to provide optimal routing, manage user boarding and alighting, and ensure operational safety. The platform has already proven its reliability with stable service operations across 33 local governments and more than 82 service regions.

Through this pioneering project, Hyundai and Kia aim to contribute to establishing domestic autonomous driving technology standards and policy frameworks. They will collaborate with autonomous driving technology developers by supplying customized autonomous vehicles and sharing vehicle and operational data during demonstration phases to advance technological sophistication.

This initiative positions South Korea to make a significant leap forward as a leader in autonomous driving technology, supporting the nationwide commercialization and expansion of smart mobility services.
