“대구의 밤, 미식으로 물들인다”… 서문·칠성야시장 3월 27일 개장! “Coloring Daegu’s Nights with Gourmet Food”… Seomun & Chilseong Night Markets Open on March 27!

 대구시는 전국적으로 인기 있는 ‘서문·칠성 야시장’을 3월 27일부터 본격 운영한다고 밝혔다. 서문야시장은 3월부터 12월까지, 칠성야시장은 3월부터 11월까지 매주 금·토·일 3일간 운영되며, 운영 시간을 금·토요일은 오후 7시부터 11시 30분, 일요일은 오후 7시부터 10시 30분까지로 정했다.

두 야시장은 먹거리 외에도 플리마켓, 어린이 경제 체험, 문화 공연 등 가족 단위 방문객이 즐길 수 있는 다양한 참여형 프로그램을 강화했다. 특히 서문야시장은 올해 10주년을 맞아 특별행사를 준비하고 있으며, 칠성야시장은 빔프로젝터를 활용한 스포츠 중계와 영화 상영으로 체류형 콘텐츠를 확대할 예정이다.

그러나 서문야시장은 음식 품질과 가격 대비 만족도가 낮고, 운영 주체의 전문성 부족 및 대리 운영 의혹, 주차 공간 부족, 기존 상인과의 갈등 등 문제점이 지적되어 지속적인 개선이 요구된다.

한편 대구시는 방문객 안전과 쾌적한 환경 조성을 위해 전선 교체, 시설 정비, 도색 및 그늘막 설치 등 방문객들이 더욱 쾌적하게 머물 수 있는 환경을 조성할 계획이다. 서문·칠성 야시장은 ‘대한민국 밤밤곡곡 100선’에 선정되어 지난해 140만 명 이상 방문했다.

Daegu City announced that the nationally popular ‘Seomun and Chilseong Night Markets’ will officially reopen from March 27. The Seomun Night Market will operate from March to December, and the Chilseong Night Market from March to November, both open three days a week on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The operating hours are from 7:00 PM to 11:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 7:00 PM to 10:30 PM on Sundays.

In addition to food stalls, both night markets have enhanced various interactive programs that families can enjoy, such as flea markets, children’s economic experience activities, and cultural performances. Notably, Seomun Night Market is preparing special events for its 10th anniversary this year, while Chilseong Night Market plans to expand stay-type content by using a newly installed projector for sports broadcasts and movie screenings.

However, Seomun Night Market faces ongoing challenges, including low satisfaction due to food quality versus high prices, lack of professionalism among operators, proxy operations, insufficient parking space, and conflicts with existing merchants, all requiring continuous improvements.

Daegu City is committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment for visitors by upgrading electrical wiring, facility maintenance, repainting, and installing shade structures to enhance the night market’s atmosphere. The Seomun and Chilseong Night Markets have been selected as one of Korea’s ‘Top 100 Night Markets,’ attracting over 1.4 million visitors last year.
